There are a number of friendly merchants along Cole Street between Waller and Parnassus, including Cole Hardware which offers numerous in-house services and resources.
Park Branch Library, 1833 Page St.@ Schrader (415) 666-7155 is the closest public library. Books on tape and language methods available for loan. Programs offered for the very young.

Randall Museum, 199 Museum Way (415) 554-9600 Small, interactive museum for children on animals, science, and the environment. From the top of the park, check out the great views of San Francisco.

San Francisco City Guides http://www.walking-tours.com/cityguides/ (415) 557-4266 offers free guided tours of different neighborhoods, specifically of the Haight-Ashbury on Sundays. Flyers are distributed in public libraries.

Public Playgrounds:

• Grattan playground, on Stanyan St. and Alma St. Features "TinyTots" session on Wednesday mornings.
• Panhandle Playground is very close. Go down Ashbury. The park is between Oak and Fell Streets. The playground was recently renovated and is ideally suited for toddlers.
• Golden Gate Park Playground is 5 minutes from the entrance to Golden Gate Park on Stanyan St. Enter at Kezar Way. This a very large playground, suitable for older children. There is a traditional merry-go-round and tennis courts across the street.
• Buena Vista Playground go up Waller St. to Buena Vista Ave. West.
• Corona Heights Playground is close to the Randall Museum.

Shopping Centers
On either side of the Corte Madera/Lycée exit on Highway 101 there are two large shopping centers :

The Town Center
The Town Center featuring Safeway, Pier 1, Strouds, and many other boutiques. The fountain, cafés and restaurants are favorite meeting places for parents. Some paetns regularly meet after dropping off their children. The Village, has all the chain stores such as Nordstrom, Macys, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc. It also hosts a mini-farmer's market on Wednesdays.

The Market Place
The Market Place on Tamal Vista Blvd is another smaller mall containing The Book Passage, a good bookstore that features numerous activities including signings and children's activities.
Vintage Oaks Shopping Center (exit Rowland Plaza) in Novato is another mall containing large discount shops such as Target and Costco. Check out Ben Franklin Crafts (facing Ross) to find everything you need for crafts, sewing and school projects.

Playgrounds
Marin County has numerous playgrounds and open spaces. Start with the school playground in the afternoon, it's a great way to meet parents. Check out Corte Madera' s town park, behind the post office and Recreation Center. It was renovated in 2001 and features a climbing wall
