A workshop with Julia BOURDET, artist in residence at Villa Albertine

Author and illustrator Julia BOURDET,  artist in residence at Villa Albertine, visited our Gr 7 students.

During this workshop, they learned drawing techniques and talked about one of Julia's main research theme for her next book: climate change.

Julia is traveling (with her sketchbook) by bike and train only to complete a zero-carbon journey from Chicago to San Francisco. Her objective is to meet Americans and learn about their views on climate change.

She explained that to the students and they also worked on a fun exercise.

Students first folded a sheet of paper into quarters. On the first quarter, they drew an abstract form, they then exchanged the paper with a friend and draw monsters on the second quarter.

On the third quarter they wrote about the characteristics they wanted to give their monsters and on the last, they drew again their favorite character keeping in mind the personality they just gave them.

Students enjoyed this experience very much and the author/illustrator was impressed by their creativity!
