DEIJ | Hispanic Heritage Month

The Spanish department at Ortega campus is celebrating Hispanic and LatinX heritage month by connecting with community members who identify as Latinx (Latinx is a term for a group identity used to describe individuals in the United States who have Latin American roots. The x refers to gender neutrality).

Students organized interviews with community members about their identity, traditions, customs and experiences. The impact was enormous as it allowed the students to peek through a window into the personal identities of various people we are connected to here at school! These kind of conversations build our diverse thinking, empathy and critical thinking skills- all skills highly valued here at LFSF!

Our DEIJ director Alejandra NAVARRO also asked questions to 3 students during Spanish class, who happen to all have ties to Spanish-speaking countries.
