Penpals in SAU

Alix, a student from SAU Gr2's pen pal school in France, recently made a special visit to meet our students in Sausalito! Her school, nestled in the Chartreuse mountains near Grenoble, has been corresponding with our Gr2 classes for about 2 years now. Alix, who was returning from a trip to Mexico with her parents, made a detour to spend the day in their class, and meet her online friends. She followed our usual program of mathematics, reading and various workshops, seamlessly integrating into our school. To top it off, she gifted the class with a large envelope full of letters and drawings from her classmates back in Proveysieux. Our students were full of questions, eager to learn about everything from her school life and the after-school activities, to recess, cafeteria, and even the swimming pool and judo lessons.

Leaving with a collection of drawings, letters, and postcards from all our students, Alix also received special gifts for her class and teacher. These included a book titled "Good evening San Francisco" in English and "Momo et Lolotte à San Francisco", written by last year's Gr4 students. From classrooms to continents, a shared love of learning sparked a beautiful friendship between our students and Alix.

But this heartwarming exchange wouldn't have been possible without the initiative of one of our own teachers on the SAU campus. Inspired by a call to connect with other elementary teachers on social media, Anne-Laure stumbled upon a message from a teacher in a village just ten kilometers from her home in Isère.

Eager to introduce her pupils to a different way of life and a region she knew well, Anne-Laure jumped at the chance to connect with this school. By the end of June, she made a visit to their school, laying the groundwork for the exciting cross-cultural exchange that would unfold.
