An Inspiring Visit from Dr. Paul Krezanoski

Our Gr10-12 students recently had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Paul Krezanoski, an internist and pediatrician at San Francisco General Hospital, for an exceptional presentation as part of their Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) course.

Connecting Science, Health, and Global Engagement

This presentation fit perfectly within the framework of our SVT curriculum, while also contributing to the school’s Health Pathway (Parcours Santé) and reflecting the international mindedness that characterizes our community. It provided students with a concrete insight into the connections between science, public health, research, humanitarian engagement, and innovation.

Advancing Malaria Prevention Through Innovation

Since 2003, Dr. Krezanoski’s work has focused on malaria prevention and the use of innovative technologies to improve health in sub-Saharan Africa. A former Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar (2003–2005), he has led several randomized clinical trials on malaria prevention. He is also the inventor of SmartNet, an electronic device that enables the remote monitoring of mosquito net use in at-risk households, currently being tested in a pilot program in Uganda.

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Global Health

Dr. Krezanoski is also the founding director of Opportunity Solutions International, an NGO developing innovative microfinance and health initiatives in Madagascar and Eswatini. His interdisciplinary academic path, spanning anthropology, computer science, medicine, and clinical research (Middlebury College, Boston University, Harvard/MGH, UCSF), perfectly illustrates the value of combining different fields to address global health challenges.

Source of Inspiration for our Students

We warmly thank Dr. Krezanoski for sharing his experience and inspiring our students to think about how science can contribute to improving global health.
