Special exhibit on Lycée's 19th Avenue

Close to 50 of our students took part in an exciting artistic initiative: Inside Out, the global participatory project founded by the artist and self-described “photograffeur” JR.

The Inside Out Project is a nonprofit, global platform that uses large-scale black‑and‑white portraits to enable communities to share their stories and perspectives in public spaces. Since its inception in 2011, it has engaged more than half a million participants across about 152–153 countries and territories, inspiring over 2,500 Group Actions that address topics like diversity, community, feminism, racism, climate change, education, children’s rights, and art. All of these installations are documented and shared on the project’s website Inside Out Project.

As part of the French American Cultural Days, the Lycée Français de San Francisco and the French American Cultural Society (FACS) are proud to bring this inspiring project to life. Portraits of students from the French‑American community—focusing on the Lycée’s students—are now displayed on the 19th Street wall of the Lycée, transforming it into a striking visual celebration of identity and community.

This temporary art exhibition will remain on our wall facing 19th avenue, for up to two months evolving naturally over time. A heartfelt thank you to photographer Frédéric AUBÉ and our Facilities Team for their much-appreciated work.
