The Magic Of Math With Monica NEAGOY

The Magic Of Math With Monica NEAGOY

Monica NEAGOY on Parents Night

Monica NEAGOY is a renowned Math consultant who popularized the Singapore Method in France. This year, during her annual visit to the Lycée, she met with :

- Teachers for a training

- Students for a Magic Math Show

- Parents for a talk about the Singapore Method and hands-on case studies

Problem Solved! A Parent Event about the Singapore Method

Parents were invited to meet the expert behind the French books used to teach their children math and discuss the approach. It was also an interactive workshop that offered a unique opportunity for families to dive into problem-solving using hands-on, manipulative-based activities that students experience in class.

"My purpose in life is to help people see the magic in Math", shared Monica NEAGOY, explaining that the goal was to stimulate the natural inclinationthat children have for learning math.

She told the parents : "Don’t do the work of the teachers, instead do games and experiences with your kids, for example : If everybody cling with everybody else, how many clings are we gonna count?"

The point is also to "go from answer getters to problem solvers and mathematical thinkers".

WHAT DID PARENTS THINK ABOUT THE WORKSHOP?

"I went to school in Argentina, where I wasn’t taught using this method. It was more aligned with the traditional French approach. I always enjoyed math, so I ended up teaching myself. What stands out about this method is its focus on play and visualization, which I find really interesting. What also caught my attention was Monica’s point about the importance of having the right mindset" - Alejandro (parent of two Lycée students : Pre-K and Gr1).

"We love math at home so I was curious to learn about this method. It seems very promising, we just need to make sure that parents can adequately support and guide the students once at home. I really much enjoyed the workshop and could have stayed another hour" - Coralie (parent of a Gr1 student)

"Monica’s approach brings math to life with passion and playfulness. Her engaging methods make complex concepts fun and accessible, inspiring kids to love and excel in math!" - Alexandre (parent of a Pre-K student)

Dr Monica, the Mathemagician!

Earlier in the day, Gr2 and Gr4 students experienced an incredible show with the "Mathemagician" Dr. Monica NEAGOY! "Every trick is powered by math and logic", she explained—showing that math isn’t just numbers, it’s pure magic in action! What better way to inspire a love for mathematics than through magic?

The children's eyes widened in awe as they enjoyed the fantastic show.

As we reach the midpoint of the academic year, we can already share exciting news about our Class of 2025 and their early college admissions results. The quality of these results certainly demonstrate how well-tailored college choices are to each student’s aspirations as well as the remarkable availability, and expertise of Lycée teachers and college counselors. However, the challenge does not end with college admissions and the ability to adapt and succeed in the new university environment is just as critical.

kids playing together in playground

Before children begin using books, paper, pens, or tablets, they first learn how to live together, build friendships, and resolve conflicts. These fundamental, lifelong social skills are initially practiced on the playground and then intentionally nurtured through circle time, reading, class discussions, school plays, and clubs.

Our students participated in the AAEH contest

The theme of the 2025 edition is 'Francophonie: A Journey Through Time and Space'. Our students tackled this challenging topic with great skill, exploring what the French-speaking world means to them and the difficult, often problematic conditions under which it was formed. At times, they connected the subject to their personal histories, while also reflecting on how speaking French has proven beneficial in their lives.
