Welcome to Artist in Residence, Ernesto NOVO

Welcome to Artist in Residence, Ernesto NOVO

After an extensive and thorough selection process, our school has successfully identified our inaugural Artist in Residence for the Action Beyond Words program. As a reminder, LFSF was awarded a significant grant of $100,000 from the Edward E Ford Foundation to support an Artist in Residence program spanning three years. This grant was generously matched by our school community last year.

The objective was to identify an artist who meets the following criteria:

  • visual artist: to create a lasting work of art to embellish our campuses.
  • Francophone artist from a French-speaking country: to engage and communicate with our students in French.
  • Centered around the themes of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging: aiming to honor the rich diversity and multiculturalism in our school community.

In January and February 2024, we will have the privilege of welcoming Ernesto Novo. Ernest Novo is a French artist of Vietnamese origin, and a portraitist who has a passion for travel and explores his art through collaboration with people of all ages and backgrounds. He is enthusiastic about working with students of all age groups, including our preschool students!

Ernesto NOVO and Emmanuel TEXIER

As he was in Paris recently to attend the Baccalauréat Français International (former OIB) Conference, our Head of School Emmanuel Texier seized the opportunity to visit him at his workshop and took some pictures for you (see below). We are truly excited to witness this project take form, a process which has taken us two years to finalize – from the initial proposal to the Edward E. Ford Foundation, through the LFSF fundraising campaign, and now, the inaugural year of its realization.

Gr8 students working hard to defend their arguments

What do you do when there is no easy answer? When an issue is too complex to be settled by a simple debate, with winners on one side and losers on the other? This is the challenge at the heart of cartographie des controverses (the mapping of controversies), a pedagogical approach that our students have been exploring this year through a compelling real-world topic: the exploitation of the Arctic.
