Making the Lycée choice

The Lycée : Purpose and Value

the Lycée stands among the finest international schools in the Bay Area—and as the most compelling local option for families seeking to prepare their children to become active, engaged global citizens.

OUR VISION & MISSION

At the Lycée, our vision is to cultivate the global thinkers and leaders of tomorrow—students who are curious, confident, and prepared to shape a changing world. Guided by our mission to deliver academic excellence through an authentically French and international education, we nurture each student within a caring, inclusive community that values diversity, empathy, and collaboration.

OUR VALUES

At the Lycée, our values guide every aspect of learning and community life. We uphold curiosity as the spark of discovery, respect as the foundation of relationships, empathy as the heart of understanding others, and excellence as the pursuit of one’s best self. Together, these values shape a learning environment where students grow with confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging.

10 reasons for making the Lycée choice

1. One Seamless Journey (Age 2–Grade 12)

Begin in La Petite École and continue through Grade 12 without reapplying between divisions. Continuity lets educators know each student deeply and build momentum year after year.

2. Bilingual Strength with Global Reach

Early French-English immersion grows cognitive agility, cultural fluency, and advanced communication skills. Students can add languages and apply them through exchanges, trips, and authentic projects.

3. Two Powerful, Dual Diploma Pathways

Choose the rigorous French national curriculum or the IB approach of the International Track—both leading to internationally recognized diplomas (French Bac/BFI or IB) plus the U.S. High School Diploma. Entry points are flexible, and no French is required for the International Track.

4. Proven College Counseling (Inside-Out Approach)

Starting in Grade 9, students receive four years of individualized guidance—course planning, essays, interviews, and fit-focused advising for the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Europe—so graduates are admission-ready and university-ready.

5. Global Learning & Exchanges

From Tahoe and Quebec to Florence, Tokyo, and Lisbon, students learn by doing—traveling, researching, and collaborating across cultures. These experiences build confidence, independence, and perspective.

6. Well-Being, Leadership & Belonging

RULER-based SEL, a dedicated Wellness Center, advisory, councils, and clubs help students manage challenge, lead with empathy, and thrive with balance and purpose.

7. Signature Experiences that Spark Agency

Start’Up Lycée, Model UN, coding/robotics, design thinking, and performing arts invite students to ideate, build, perform, and pitch—experiences that translate directly into portfolios, interviews, and college essays.

8. Excellent Teaching, Boutique-School Feel

Expert faculty—many internationally trained—bring rich practice and care to the classroom. With a boutique scale and warm culture, students are known, challenged, and supported with personalized attention.

9. Community You Can Feel

Parents, alumni, and partners amplify student life through initiatives like Fund for the Future and the Cantine Project. Families stay for the friendships, shared values, and “we’re in this together” spirit.

10. Affordability with Impact

Strategic, cost-aligned tuition lets us deliver premium value—bilingual learning, two tracks, dual diplomas, standout programs—ensuring mission drives opportunity.

WHY French?

French is one of the very few languages spoken all over the world. It is unusual in that it often exists alongside other languages in multilingual contexts. At the Lycée, our mission is not to teach French but to deliver a rigorous program and educate mindful and globally-minded students, fully comfortable with the many cultures of the world... in French!

THE VALUE OF AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

  • As an independent school, the Lycée is governed by a Board of Trustees and is unencumbered by governing structures not directly related to our mission statement.
  • The Lycée is primarily supported by tuition payments, community contributions and endowment revenue.
  • The Lycée provides high-quality settings for engaged and transformative bilingual learning. Our school and faculty share a belief in the power and necessity of critical thinking, nurturing intellectual curiosity, stimulating personal growth and promoting a lifelong love of learning. As a result, the Lycée is a place where students can make meaning rather than accumulate learning.
  • The Lycée vibrant international community supports our school mission, ensuring that everyone is working toward the same goals.
