"Open Learning" fait référence à toutes les activités qui améliorent et élargissent les possibilités d'apprentissage au-delà de l'éducation formelle en ouvrant la salle de classe au monde et en appliquant des compétences théoriques à la vie réelle. Le programme est construit autour d'initiatives innovantes et collaboratives entre l'école et les institutions locales et leurs acteurs.
Les compétitions locales ou internationales sont des occasions uniques d'appliquer des compétences et des apprentissages. Des concours en robotique comme le First Lego League Challenge permettent à nos étudiants de tester leurs connaissances, leur leadership et leurs compétences, ce qui leur apporte l'expérience nécessaire pour s'impliquer davantage dans les événements de Design Thinking et inviter les étudiants à relever des défis scientifiques, humanitaires ou environnementaux mondiaux. Le Start’up Lycée est un événement de deux jours au cours duquel les étudiants sont invités à devenir de jeunes entrepreneurs et à créer une start-up en seulement 48 heures ! Accompagnées et encadrées par des professionnels, les équipes créent une application, développent du contenu, étudient la faisabilité, recherchent du financement et enfin présentent le projet à un jury composé d'entrepreneurs de la Silicon Valley. Nos équipes académiques travaillent à la création de partenariats avec des entreprises ou des programmes pour donner aux étudiants de réelles opportunités de travailler avec des professionnels à travers des stages (EKSO Bionics), d’utiliser leurs produits pour approfondir leur apprentissage (Parrot Drones), ou de s’engager pour résoudre les conflits humanitaires mondiaux (Youth Summit Stanford)
In the context of our Artist in Residence program and thanks to the support of a grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, generously matched by our school community last year, we will be welcoming Ernesto NOVO, who will work with students from our three campuses. A great way to start the New year!
Last year, our students, teachers and the Capp Street Community Center (SF Mission district) collaborated to create an awesome and colorful mural. This year, it is displayed for all to see, and our students combined a visit to see the mural in situ with other explorations in line with their Spanish curriculum.
Middle and High school students were invited to watch a concert performed by the Renegade Orchestra. The local San Franciscan band offers "the beauty of a symphony and the soul of a rock band", a combination that immersed students in an intriguing and groovy musical universe. Today, as she is getting ready to embark on a new chapter at Columbia University, she can officially add Python to her list of languages.
Gilles Bailly-Maitre is a researcher from La Rochelle University in France, and has been working with our students for Math en Jeans. We asked him a few questions about his involvement in the 2019 Math en Jeans conference.
The 2019 Math en Jean conference is coming to San Francisco and is hosted by LFSF. We met with Matthieu Schavsinski, one of the Math teachers leading the organization of this major event, and we asked him a few questions.
Isabella is only in Gr 7 at LFSF and yet it took her just a week to program an online game. She brainstormed questions, drew the animation, and then coded her game!
