2021 2022 LFSF COVID PROTOCOLS

We are monitoring the number of cases very closely, and precisely distinguishing general (‘normal”) absenteeism from positive cases to have a very accurate view of the actual presence of the virus in our population.

A COVID vaccine is available for children age 5 and up, and boosters are now authorized for those 12 years and older. Research shows these new vaccines are remarkably effective and safe. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) urges children to get the COVID-19 vaccine and booster as soon as they are eligible. Being vaccinated and boosted is especially important now with the rise in cases caused by the delta variant and omicron variants of the virus and will likely be required by the State of California for school attendance in the future. 

Which primary vaccine series did you complete?

Pfizer-BioNTech

• You can get a booster if:
  • It's been at least 5 months since completing a primary series AND you are:
  • Age 12+
• If eligible, you can get a booster of:
  • Pfizer-BioNTech*
  • Moderna
  • Janssen (J&J)

*Only Pfizer-BioNTech can be used as a booster in those age 12-17.

Moderna

• You can get a booster if:
  • It's been at least 5 months since completing a primary series AND you are:
  • Age 18+
• If eligible, you can get a booster of:
  • Moderna
  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Janssen (J&J)

Janssen (J&J)

• You can get a booster if:
  • It's been at least 2 months since completing primary vaccination AND you are:
  • Age 18+
• If eligible, you can get a booster of:
  • Janssen (J&J)
  • Moderna
  • Pfizer-BioNTech

• Masks are one of the most effective and simplest safety mitigation layers to prevent in-school transmission of COVID-19 infections and to support full time in-person instruction.
• Following recommendations from health authorities, masks will be either mandated or strongly recommended depending on the phase of the pandemic. The information is posted on school tvs or signs on each campus ( code red: mandated | code orange : strongly recommended) .

• Properly fitted respirators (e.g., KN95 or N95) provide the highest level of protection.

Ventilation, Deep cleaning, Hand washing

On our campuses, ventilation is optimized in all classrooms following CDPH Guidance on Ventilation of Indoor Environments and Ventilation and Filtration to Reduce Long-Range Airborne Transmission of COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Infections: Considerations for Reopened Schools. 

In addition, windows are opened at the beginning and at the end of each school day, and educators are encouraged to open them during recess and lunch periods.

Deep cleaning has been on-going to further reduce any risk of spreading infection.

Staff will continue to promote thorough hand washing throughout the day, especially before and after eating, as well as after using the toilet.

Lunch
Whenever the weather conditions allow, lunch will be encouraged to be outdoors, or indoors with open windows.

Visitors on campus

Visits to campus will be kept to a minimum. It will be by appointment only, for a specific purpose, and will be limited to vaccinated visitors only. Generally, zoom will be encouraged and preferred.

Gatherings and events

Likewise, until conditions improve, we will rely on zoom meetings to avoid any unnecessary gathering inside the school limits. Upcoming events will be assessed individually, based on conditions and the evolution of the pandemic.
