Tuition and Financial Assistance

Lycée Français de San Francisco is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization registered with the State of California and accredited by the French government, as well as by CAIS (California Association of Independent Schools), and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).

In an effort to attract a more socio-economically diverse population, our tuition rates are lower than other independent schools in the area and about 20% of our families receive need-based financial assistance.

Tuition Fees | 2017 • 2018

  • La Petite Ecole $15,885
  • Preschool • Grade 5  $22,140
  • Grades 6 • 8  $23,500
  • Grades 9 • 12  $29,050*

Except when tuition fees are paid by an employer, LFSF families qualify for a 5% tuition discount per child starting from the second child enrolled.

We encourage all families to help bridge the gap between the tuition and the full education cost per student by making a tax-deductible contribution to the LFSF Annual Fund at the time of enrollment. Our goal is 100% participation to the Annual Fund!

* As a transitional measure, students enrolled in 6th through 8th grades as of the end of the 2016/17 school year, who remain continuously enrolled at LFSF through 9th grade, will pay the tuition applicable to 6th to 8th grade students for 9th grade.

Enrollment Fee and Deposit | 2017 • 2018

Enrollment is confirmed upon reception of the signed Enrollment Agreement, along with the following payments:

  • $2,000 one-time enrollment fee per child

Please note that this fee is non-refundable and non-deductible from tuition.

  • The deposit on tuition per student that is non-refundable but deductible from tuition, to the amount of
    Preschool • Grade 5    $2,200
    Grades 6 • 8   $2,300
    Grades 9 • 12    $2,800

Other Fees

You may also be billed for expenses not included in tuition including optional programs such as extra-curricular activities, study hall, daycare, hot lunches and inter-campus school bus service.

Payment Options

We offer two tuition payment options.

Families can either pay

  • in full by June 1, 2017, or
  • pay in 10 monthly installments from June 2017 to March 2018.

Upon enrollment, you will receive an email from FACTS, a tuition management service, providing you with registration instructions. Registration with FACTS is mandatory for all families, except when tuition and fees are paid in full.

Families have the option to pay via FACTS by automatic deduction from their bank account or by credit card (a processing fee will be added for payment by credit card). FACTS accepts only American Express, Discover and MasterCard.

International Students

A student who does not have a parent/guardian residing in the United States must pay tuition in full prior to receipt of his/her student visa.

Financial Assistance

New applicants should contact admissions@lelycee.org directly for more specific information about applying for financial aid.

French Government Scholarships

French families may apply for a need-based scholarship (for a student in any grade) from the French government at the French Consulate of San Francisco. Note that French families must apply for French government financial aid (see below) before applying for financial aid from LFSF.

The deadlines for Government scholarship application submission for the 2017-2018 school year are:

  • February 28, 2017 for families already living in the Consular district
  • September 2017 for families who moved to the Consular district in March 2017 or later. (Exact date to be determined by the consulate)

School Scholarships

Lycée Français de San Francisco grants need-based financial aid to children enrolled in Pre-School through Grade 12. Please note that there isn't any aid granted for children enrolled in the Petite Ecole class.

LFSF works with School & Student Services (SSS), a division of the National Association of Independent Schools, to calculate financial need. Based on the financial information provided in the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), SSS informs LFSF of the demonstrated need and the amount a family can contribute to educational expenses. The LFSF Financial Aid Committee then determines the amount of financial aid that can be awarded to the family based on the total amount of aid budgeted that year. You may submit an application for financial aid to SSS from the time of enrollment.
