Vendredi 18 janvier 2019-19h- La 1ère nuit du court-métrage

Showcasing a wide variety of stories and styles, the screening is a selection of short films chosen from 2019’s nominees at the César (French Oscars), Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival and other selected short film festivals. Discover the most creative and innovative French filmmakers!

The evening’s format will be presented in two one-hour long programs with a 15-minute intermission which will include complimentary wine and cheese tasting.

This event is brought to you by Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles - Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz in partnership with L’Alliance Française de Los Angeles and Le Lycée Français de San Francisco.

All films with English subtitles.

1) Afikoman (Afikoman) by Mélanie Thierry, 2018

Fiction- Drama

Nicolas and Yuri work in a slaughterhouse. They're at the beginning of the production line; their job is stun the animals. Yuri would like to return to his homeland this summer and Nicolas is trying to find a present for his daughter's birthday, taking place the following day. An idea pops into his head to take a young calf out of the slaughter line to offer it to his little girl. But first he has to convince Sandrine, the slaughterhouse veterinarian, and Estelle, his wife. Is he really trying to give his daughter a surprise or is he trying to redeem himself by saving the animal from certain death?

2) Dinosaure by Pierre Dugowson, 2017

In a park, a tiny girl blows up an enormous balloon. A boy watches and gets ready to burst the balloon. The girl's mother tries to deter him.

3) La Mort, Père & Fils (The Death, Dad & Son) by Winshluss & Denis Walgenwitz, 2017

Animated Film- 2D & 3D Animation

Death's son doesn't want to take over the family business. His secret desire to become a guardian angel triggers a series of major mishaps. His dad will have to intervene to get him out of this mess.

4) Inlove (Inlove) by Alexis Lopez & Jérémie Lopez, 2018

Fiction- Drama

While on patrol in a Middle Eastern country, a western army squad stops for a while in the village of Iqmarba.

5) L’Affaire du Siècle (A Capital Case) by Victoria Musiedlak, 2018

Fiction- Drama

Nageux, a court-appointed defense lawyer, is representing a person in police custody for the first time. Full of goodwill and ready to do anything to defend his client, he will nevertheless experience a baptism of fire that he'll unlikely forget.

6) Avaler des Couleuvres (Suck it up) by Jan Sitta, 2017

Fiction

Souad just passed her diploma as a beautician and got employed in a classy beauty salon. Luck is with her.

7) Comment Fernando Pessoa Sauva le Portugal (How Fernando Pessoa Saved Portugal) by Eugène Green, 2017

Fiction- Comedy, Legend

In the 1920s, at his employers' request, the poet Fernando Pessoa conceived an advertising slogan for the Coca-Louca drink, which nevertheless sent the authoritarian government into a panic.

8) Les Indes Galantes (The Amorous Indies) by Clément Cogitore, 2017

Experimental- Video Art

Krumping is a dance born in the Los Angeles ghettos after the riots of 1995. Through this performance filmed on the Opéra Bastille stage, Clément Cogitore creates a battle between urban culture and Rameau's music.

9) Mi-temps (Half Time) by Marie Sauvion, Lofti Bahmed, 2017

Fiction- Comedy

Karim, thirty-seven years, seven months, five days, seven hours, and twelve seconds old, has reached the exact midpoint of his life. Like every human who arrives at half time, he receives a visit from a surprising messenger who gives him the choice between continuing to live his life as it is now, or starting it all over again. He has fifteen minutes to decide.
