LOS ANGELES, CA – For the twelfth year, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) in collaboration with the Consulates of France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, the Quebec Government Office in Los Angeles, and Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles present A Week of French Language Cinema, with nightly screenings of critically acclaimed French language films, from Saturday, March 20 through Thursday, March 25, 2021. The program includes notable films from Belgium, Quebec, Canada, Switzerland, Algeria, and France. All films are in French with English subtitles. The film “Plus haut que les flammes” contains other languages which are also subtitled in English.

“This collection of feature films celebrates the richness and talent in the French-speaking filmmaking community,” says  Pierre Leloup, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz Director. “It’s fascinating to me the diversity of the French-speaking population, the multitude of stories told in one language across all five continents. We are thrilled to be a part of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF)’s annual celebration of the French language and Francophone culture on March 20th.”

OIF’s members share more than just a common language, they also support cultural and linguistic diversity in the era of economic globalization, by cultivating diversity and refuting standardized modes of expression. Indeed, A Week of French Language Cinema is in line with this mission and is proud to present a rich variety of stories that serve to nurture cultural differences. It is not surprising then, that of the 6 films, 3 reflect and represent LGBTQ stories, and that half are directed by women.

“Perhaps no medium is as effective as film at transcending borders with stories, creating a cultural exchange that I hope, will ultimately lead to tolerance and acceptance of our cultural differences, all rolled into the excitement of cinematic experiences” says  Pierre Leloup, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz Director.

Tickets for each screening are only $5, or $20 for the whole week (6 movies). Tickets and passes can be purchased here:
